DERBYSHIRE: Cookery demo shows how to save cash

A professional chef will be on hand to show shoppers how easy it is to make delicious meals from their leftovers and make the family food budget stretch further.

Chef Clover Hutson will be cooking up a storm during the Derbyshire County Council Love Food Hate Waste cookery demonstrations.

Every month, UK families throw away up to £50 of food and drink, much of which ends up in landfill.

These roadshows show how delicious food can be created with food we might otherwise throw away.

Derbyshire County Councillor John Allsop, cabinet member for recycling and technology, said: “If we all stop wasting food that could be eaten it would be like taking one in five cars off the road.”

The roadshows will be held at:

• Tesco in Long Eaton on Friday, March 15, between 10am and 6pm

• Asda in Langley Mill on Saturday, March 16, between 10am and 5pm

Visitors will also learn how it pays to plan menus and shopping, cook with leftovers and pay attention to storage.
