Sports facilities at a primary school will be improved thanks to £30,000 of funding.

Lea Primary School has been awarded the cash from Sport England’s £18million National Lottery funded Primary School Facilities Fund, which is helping schools provide outdoor multi-activity play areas across the country.

The investment is designed to support those schools which are in greatest need of facility improvements and will benefit both pupils at the school and the local community. Lea Primary School will use the money to develop a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) – an enclosed pitch upon which a variety of sports and games can be played.

Karen Maycock, the Head teacher, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this funding and the children are very excited at the sports opportunities this will bring.”

Nick Bitel, Sport England chairman, said: “Having the right space to play sport and be physically active as a child is vitally important. We are delighted to be investing this funding in Lea Primary School to improve the spaces that will give the children the space to start enjoying PE and sport.”
