Delight as Nando’s is set to open in town

Food lovers have spoken of their joy after it emerged Nando’s is coming to Chesterfield.

The Portuguese eaterie will open a restaurant in the town in September.

A spokesman for the popular franchise – which specialises in chicken dishes – said: “We’re thrilled to reveal this news.”

The announcement comes after Chesterfield man Chris Cordin, 22, set up an online petition calling for the national chain to move to the town.

He said: “I started this petition because I always had to travel to Sheffield to get a Nando’s – they have three or four of them there already.

“I’m very happy it’s coming to Chesterfield.

“I’m a big chicken lover and glad I won’t have to go far to get my fix now!”

And the article has been shared almost 2,000 times on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

On Facebook, Laura Whitworth said: “I’m so excited!”

Michelle Hoole said: “It’s about time we had a Nando’s!”

Jax Palfreyman added: “Wahey! Now all we need is a Starbucks.”

On Twitter, @amesrussy said: “This is the best news I’ve heard in ages!”

@bethmcinnes_ said: “Looks like the new @NandosUK in Chesterfield will have to be the size of a small stadium to meet its demand! Long overdue!”

The location of the restaurant is yet to be confirmed.

The Nando’s spokesman added that more details will be released soon.
