DEBATE: The worst roundabout in Chesterfield?

Today's story about one driver's unfortunate encounter with a National Express coach on a Chesterfield roundabout certainly sparked a lot of debate on our Facebook page.

As a result, we though we’d ask our readers which of the town’s four main roundabouts was the worst - Hornsbridge, Markham Road, Tesco or Whittington Moor.

Of those, Whittington Moor was definitely people’s least favourite with many describing the high speed traffic island as a ‘death trap’.

Reader, Naomi Dolby, said: “Whitmoor is the worst - it needs traffic lights and the speed limit bringing down. A lot of people go around it far too fast without knowing which lane they need to be in - kamikaze island indeed!”

And Gary Wright said: “Whitmoor roundabout is the worst one in Chesterfield. I think they need to bring the speed limit down and then perhaps things will improve - although a lot of drivers could do with relearning the highway code!”

Like Naomi, many of those who responded suggested the roundabout needed traffic lights to slow the cars down so we thought we’d ask the rest of you what you think to the idea.
