Flagg darts ace Lorraine Farlam has hit the bullseye and married pro darts player Dean Winstanley in a romantic Buxton ceremony.

The couple tied the knot recently at the Lee Wood Hotel, on Manchester Road, with five bridesmaids: Lorraine’s best friend Sally, her daughters Josie and Jessica and Dean’s daughter Chelsea and stepdaughter Kiera.

Lorraine, 38, popped the question in May at the airport on his return from a tournament in Germany by greeting her husband-to-be with a sign saying: “Will you marry me?”

“He said yes and lets get you home! I thought he was by himself but when I came back from paying for the parking, he’d told all the darts officials from the flight and they all applauded,” said Lorraine.

The sporting pair met on the darts circuit five years ago and started going out in 2010.

“It was a beautiful day; we had a fantastic time,” the part-time hairdresser at Just Divine Hair and Beauty, on Dale Road, Buxton, said of their big day.

“We haven’t had a honeymoon as yet. I went to Holland on the Wednesday and he went off to Germany on Thursday. We’re always really busy. We always have to check our diaries to see when we’re playing but it’s fun. I play most weeks.”

Known by his nickname “Over the Top”, the father-of-five finished as a runner up in the 2011 British Darts Organisation world championship and world masters, as well as winning the England Open in 2010.

Lorraine, originally from Buxton, is ranked ninth by the British Darts Organisation and competed in the semi-final of the women’s world championship and masters in 2012, as well as winning the women’s British Open in 2011.
