A DAD’s self-penned tune about his young son helped him beat tough competition in a singing competition.
Dan Aspinall’s performance of Sweet Surprise about three-year-old Finlay, combined with a cover of Creep by Radiohead, went down a storm at the regional final of Open Mic UK on Sunday.
The Brimington administrator impressed the Sheffield judges to get through to the next area round in his age category. “I’m just looking forward to the next one now”, said Dan, 30, who plays guitar.
“My ambition is to be a recording artist, I’m getting more into the scene now and have recorded a four track EP.”
Open Mic UK is a singing contest for unsigned artists of all genres.
If Dan continues to wow celebrity and industry experts, with a glittering national final at the 02 Arena in London, he could scoop a recording contract.
