UNEMPLOYMENT looms for a dad who took the wheel almost double the drink-drive limit after a works par

Police saw a Peugeot 306 mount the kerb in Gables Close, Holmewood, at 1.25am, on December 2, Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard.

They spoke to driver Lee Atkins, 40, of Heath Road, Holmewood, who smelled of drink.

His solicitor, Bertie Mather, said: “They had a works do at the Casa hotel. He had a pint of lager and a pint of shandy and he hadn’t planned to drink anything else. But he won a bottle of champagne which he shared with people on his table.”

Mr Mather added Atkins was a delivery driver for Booker Wholesale and would lose his job following the offence.

Atkins was fined £130, with £85 costs. His 18-month driving ban will be reduced by a quarter if he passes a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
