Cyclists urged to get in gear for Bike Week

Derbyshire and Chesterfield and are hosting a series of activities and events to celebrate the health and environmental benefits of cycling during Bike Week.

On Saturday, June 14, there will be the Chesterfield Spire Cycling Club Anniversary Ride which involves a 125km ride through the Peak District. A demanding route with total ascent of 2070m.

It leaves from Holmebrook Valley Park Cafe, at 9am. For details call (01246) 455525.

A Transition Chesterfield Repair Cafe including free bike check and adjustments will be available on June 14 at Loundsley Green Community Centre, from 11am - 3pm. For details call (01246) 520820.

On the same day Chesterfield Cycle Campaign ‘Cycle Shorts’ is holding an evening of short films about all aspects of cycling, from 7.30pm. For details call (01246) 520820. £5 per person with refreshments included.

On Tuesday, June, there will be an off-road ride. It meets at Loundsley Green Road underpass on the Holmebrook Valley Trail and leaves at 7pm for approximately seven miles. Finishing at the Crispin Pub, on Ashgate Road, Chesterfield. For details call 0744 391 2363.

On Wednesday, June 18, there will be a Chesterfield Spire Cycling Club freewheel competition, at Shillitoe Woods, above Cutthorpe, from 6.30pm. For details call (01246) 455525.

On Friday, June 20, there will be a Chesterfield Cycle Campaign Pea & Pie supper at the Crispin Pub, on Ashgate Road, Chesterfield. It costs £5 per person if eating or it is free otherwise. It starts at 7.30pm at the pub or earlier with a short ride leaving from the Town Hall at 7pm. For details call (01246) 555943.

On Sunday, June 22, Chesterfield Cycle Campaign’s ‘Tour de Chesterfield’ takes place with a slow cycle ride looking at new and planned infrastructure in the town. It leaves from the Town Hall at 1pm. For details call (01246) 520820.
