A group of 15 cyclists from Chesterfield are to set off on an epic 88 mile ride this weekend to raise fund for Chesterfield’s stillbirth and neonatal death charity, Sands.

The idea came about after one of their number, Adrian Clark, attended the opening of the charity’s Boythorpe Baby Garden last year and wanted to do something to make a difference.

The group, all of whom have personal experience of how devastating losing a child can be, will set off on Sunday, starting from Hardwick Hall at 6.30am and ending at Skegness.

Adrian’s wife Tracy, who lost a baby ten years ago, said: “It’s such a sad event for anyone to go through but with the help of Chesterfield Sands hopefully it’s made easier and that’s why they have made the memorial at Boythorpe where so many babies are laid to rest.

“It’s a peaceful garden where parents can have a plaque put on the memorial in their babies name or just go up there and sit and have time with their baby.”

Donations to Chesterfield Sands can be made via its website or people can donate to the group direct at www.justgiving.com/John-Richardson17.
