Margaret Woodcock, joint president opened the October meeting of Cromford WI.
During September a team of four had entered the County Quiz, managing a reasonable score. Other members had attended the federation meeting held the day before when Prue Leith had given a very amusing talk about her life in catering.
There will be a walk on October 22, meeting at Cromford Market Place at 10.30am. The knit and knitter group will be filling shoeboxes on October 28.
If you are looking for a new wardrobe and a light lunch, the main event of the month will be a swishing day and refreshments of soup and a roll at the Methodist Church Hall in Cromford on Saturday, October 26, starting at 11am. The cost will be £3 and each swished item £2.
Members will also attend the Autumn Group Meeting on October 31, with Charles Hanson as guest speaker.
Final arrangements have been made for 34 members and friends to visit JCB on November 5, for a tour of the factory and afternoon tea.
Members will celebrate Christmas at their December meeting, arrangements are being made for a Christmas lunch and a member is opening her home for sherry and mincepies on Tuesday, December 17.
After Christmas there are plans for a New Year party on January 6, a visit to Kilburn Hall and a tour of Derby Theatre with a matinee performance.
Christine and Ken Levasseur gave an illustrated talk about the first part of their Offa’s Dyke Walk from Chepstow to Prestatyn. The path follows the Dyke for a large part of the walk, amongst lovely scenery and is quite challenging with an ascent and descent of around 33,000ft. The vote of thanks was given by Roma Davies.
During the tea and coffee break, Christine and Ken judged the outdoors photographic competition.
The next meeting will be the Annual General Meeting and election of officers to be held on November 6, at the Cromford Institute.
