Police have cordoned off a large crime scene on Derby Road after a suspected assault.

One man has been arrested and anther is in hospital, said police.

Neighbours watched at around 10.30pm as officers drew police tape around the large crime scene.

The blocked area which covers an area of gardens backed onto by houses on Derby Road, Just Perfect Hair and Singh’s food and wine, along Bacon’s Lane and Birdholme Crescent.

Derbyshire police confirmed: “Shortly after 8pm last night (Thursday November 19) officers were called to Derby Road in Chesterfield where a man had been injured.

“A 29-year-old local man sustained injuries to his head and neck and is being treated at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

“A 27-year-old man was arrested at around 9pm at another address in Chesterfield.  He is currently in custody and will be questioned later today.”

A neighbour said they were concerned about the scene as they noticed police activity on Derby Road road at around 10.30pm.

Another report to the Derbyshire Times given anonymously said they heard ‘fighting’ yesterday evening but didn’t know what the commotion was.
