A motorist who did a u-turn and was involved in a crash has been ordered to pay out £284 in fines and costs.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Thursday, November 28, how Stephen Alexander, 35, of Kentmere Way, Staveley, was on Mansfield Road, Hasland, when the collision happened.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said the vehicle did a u-turn in front of another driver and there was a collision between them in June.

Alexander pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. Paul Metcalfe, defending, said Alexander was expecting a mini-roundabout which has gone. He explained Alexander passed his driving test at 17 years-old but failed to apply for a full licence. Magistrates fined Alexander £179 and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs. His licence was also endorsed with four points.
