TIBSHELF: 16-month road ban for drink driver

COURT: Court Case

COURT: Court Case

A drink-driver who was almost twice over the legal limit has been banned from the road for 16 months.

Police followed Sarah Wimpenny, 45, from Marys Mews, Honley, into Tibshelf services on the M1 on the afternoon of February 12.

She was refuelling her Suzuki Jimny when officers approached her and and noticed she had been drinking.

Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard how Wimpenny drank a brandy before driving.

Helen Griffiths, prosecuting, said: “Her eyes were glazed and the officers could smell alcohol on her.”

She gave a reading of 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at the police station.

Wimpenny admitted to driving a motor vehicle while in excess alcohol.

Jon Barber, defending, said: “She accepts she had a small amount of brandy which would have ‘topped-up’ what she had the night before.”

The magistrates also imposed a £215 fine.
