A burglar’s tattooed face roused suspicions and led to his arrest after a 100mph chase in a stolen car.
Derby Crown Court heard this month how a neighbour who looked out of his front window spotted Ashley Pegg, 22, who has inked designs on his forehead and cheeks.
Moments later, Pegg drove off in an Audi A4 car after sneaking into a house on Mansfield Road, Winsick, and snatching the ignition keys.
Police spotted the car on the A6175 and it turned round when the patrol car came into view.
Christopher Gabbitas said: “They gave chase and the Audi was driven away at speed, reaching 100mph. It jumped a red light before getting surrounded by police cars.
“Officers had to smash a driver’s side window to gain access. He was non-compliant until an officer threatened to use a Taser.”
Pegg, of The Spires, Chesterfield, failed a breath test which showed he was double the drink-drive limit. He was jailed for 15 months and banned from driving for three years.
He admitted burglary after the incident in May, theft of a car, drink-driving and driving while disqualified.
Felicity Campbell, mitigating, said Pegg had applied some of his tattoos while drunk after buying a home kit and they had brought him emotional turmoil. Pegg had only taken the car to sleep in it after arguing with his girlfriend, Ms Campbell added.
Judge John Wait told him: “You know the offences you committed that night are very serious.”
