Stole bottle of red wine worth £4.99

Two men who stole a bottle of wine from a Buxton shop have been conditionally discharged for 12 months.

Grenville Hamilton and Mark Anthony Spencer stole the red wine, valued at £4.99, from the Co-op store on Scarsdale Place on March 19, High Peak Magistrates’ Court heard.

Hamilton, 34, of Burlow Road, Buxton, admitted theft from a shop. Spencer, 44, of Eagle Parade, Buxton, also admitted the charge and asked for three other thefts from the Co-op in March to be taken into account.

John Gallagher, for Hamilton, said: “It is very low value and there has been no confrontation with staff.”

John Bunting, for Spencer said: “All the items that were stolen are really hand to mouth items.”

Hamilton must pay compensation of £2.48 and a £15 surcharge and Spencer must also pay compensation of £5 and a £15 surcharge.
