Police are appealing for information after an elderly north Derbyshire woman was the victim of a sneak-in burglar.
The 94 year old found the man in her kitchen of her home in Bolsover, at about 8pm on Wednesday, July 9.
He told the woman he was looking for his cat but when she said she was going to call the police he left through the kitchen window.
Police are now also reminding residents to make sure that they leave any doors and windows secure whenever they are out, or even in another part of the house.
Community safety inspector Russell Dakin said: “Although nothing was stolen this was quite a distressing incident for the victim, and we would urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact us.
“While the weather is nicer people may be tempted to leave windows and doors open, but if you are outside or in another part of the house then it is much safer to make sure they are secure to help reduce the potential of a thief from getting into your home.”
The man is described as being white, aged in his late teens, tall and was wearing a striped jumper. Officers would also like to trace a man seen outside the property at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
