Shotgun fired in Shuttlewood

DERBYSHIRE police are appealing for help from the public in relation to an incident that occurred in fields between Buttermilk Lane and Bentinck Road in Shuttlewood where a shotgun was deliberately discharged.

The noise of the shot caused a 40-year-old local woman rider to be thrown from her horse. She sustained serious head, facial and ankle injuries and was treated at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The incident happened between 12 noon – 12.30pm today (Friday June 24) as the woman was riding across a meadow. She saw a man, wearing camouflage and holding the gun. Just after she passed him she heard a shot which spooked her horse, and she was thrown to the ground.
