An abusive thief was tracked down after a suspicious staff at a store warned security about the offender’s behaviour.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Michael Wright, 18, of Cobnar Drive, Chesterfield, was spotted behaving suspiciously at BHS and this information was passed to Chesterfield’s Vicar Lane security team in Chesterfield.
Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Wright was observed in Vicar Lane and was showing a DVD to others and police arrived and he was found in possession of a DVD.”
Mrs Allsop said Wright swore and was abusive to the officer before he was arrested. Wright pleaded guilty to stealing the DVD from the Range store and not from BHS and guilty to threatening behaviour. Jon Barber, defending, said Wright has mental health problems. Magistrates sentenced Wright on Monday, to a community order, a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
