A motorist was found over the drink-drive limit in his car after he intended to sleep in the vehicle after a row with his partner.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Daniel Fareham, 27, of Derby Road, Chesterfield, had a night out with his partner and there had been an argument and he took off in the vehicle.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said: “Police went to McGregor’s Pond, on McGregor Way. Fareham was sat in a vehicle and smelled of alcohol. He recorded 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. He said he had been at a party and there was an argument and his partner would not let him in. He got his car keys and drove to a car park where he intended to sleep.”

Fareham pleaded guilty to drink-driving after the incident in August. He said he was sorry. Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 17 months, fined him £250 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £25 victim surcharge.
