An 84-year-old man was conned out of £900 cash by rogue traders who claimed he needed roof work doing.

At 2pm on Friday, November 8, four men arrived in a white flatbed truck at the man’s home on Langer Lane, Chesterfield. They told him he needed work doing on his roof, and the man agreed for them to carry it out.

He told the police they were there for about an hour and then asked for £600, which the elderley man paid.

The next day, one of the men returned around noon in a dark red Transit-style van and said he owed them more money. The victim paid him £300 which was all he had.

The men are all described as white, wearing green tops with white writing on the back. Two of them were middle aged, and two no older than 20, police said. They spoke with local accents.

Anyone with any information regarding this crime is urged to call Derbyshire Police on 101.
