Robber jailed after one-hour crime spree in Chesterfield

A man who attacked and robbed strangers at their homes in Chesterfield has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

David Smith pleaded guilty to robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and two counts of burglary.

All the crimes happened on October 1 between 5pm and 6pm.

Smith first forced his way into a flat in Arundel Close, assaulting a 64-year-old man and stealing cash and a digital camera.

He then went to a flat in Devonshire Close and assaulted a 23-year-old man before going to another two flats in the same block, walking in through unlocked doors and stealing a phone from one flat and nothing from the second.

Smith, 30, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday.
