A drug abuser has been fined after he was caught by police with amphetamine and diazepam.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Scott Burrows, 23, of Park Mill Drive, Westhouses, Alfreton, was searched by police after they saw him acting strangely.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “He was seen acting bizarrely on Mansfield Road, Alfreton, and searched and police discovered amphetamine. Police searched his home the next day and found a diazepam tablet.”

Burrows said he has had drug problems but his situation is improving. He had claimed the amphetamine was placed on him by someone and the diazepam was for medicine. Burrows pleaded guilty to possessing 0.1grammes of class B amphetamine and possessing 0.16grammes of class C diazepam after searches in June. Magistrates fined him £110 and he must pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
