Police put brakes on speeding motorists

After setting the issue as their latest priority, the team took to the roads throughout the day on Tuesday, April 21 to carry out speed checks along The Hill in Cromford and Derby Road in Wirksworth.

During the day of action, four motorists were issued with traffic offence reports after they were found to be speeding though the 30mph zone. One motorist was also found to be driving without a MOT and another for taking to the wheel without a valid driving licence.

A number of other motorists were also stopped and advised about their speed and the importance of sticking to the law and abiding by the speed limits.

PC Chad Fullerton from the Matlock Bath, Cromford and Bonsall Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Speed limits are there for a reason and when these are broken by motorists; they are not only putting themselves at risk but also the lives of pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

“The majority of drivers went on without a problem but it is still worrying to see that drivers are exceeding the limit.

“We have spoken to the motorists and they have been warned that speed limits are there for a reason.

“We do listen to any concerns that our residents may have so I would encourage people to report any issues of speeding to us so that we can help to make our roads safer.”
