AN OFFENDER has admitted finding a stolen moped and taking it home.

Edward Hodgkinson, 34, of Main Street, Bolsover, discovered the moped, according to a Chesterfield magistrates’ court hearing, on Monday, April 29, near Carr Vale.

Becky Mahon, prosecuting, said: “Police later saw another defendant John Bennett riding the moped and he said he had taken it from Hodgkinson’s garden.”

Defence solicitor Julian Hammond said Hodgkinson had been drinking when he took the bike and Mr Bennett took it for a ride. Hodgkinson pleaded guilty to acquiring criminal property and was sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Bennett, 22, of Charlesworth Street, Bolsover, pleaded guilty to using a moped without insurance, an appropriate licence and head gear. He was fined £110 and his licence was endorsed with six points.
