Hewitt knocked over a block of kitchen knives and picked three up off the floor, according to Mr Carr, and left with them with the intention of confronting the his partner’s alleged lover. Mr Carr added that Hewitt could not find the man and returned home where he was arrested.

Defence solicitor Steve Brint said Hewitt had received a Facebook message earlier on the day of the incident on March 16 from the wife of his partner’s alleged lover claiming they were having a relationship.

Mr Brint explained Hewitt had no idea where the man lives and had intended to drive to his original home of Oldham but he ran out of fuel.

Magistrates adjourned the case to consider reports before sentencing on May 6.
