A man who jumped to the aid of a officer who was assaulted is being sought by police.
They want to thank the man, who was passing Matlock Green in his car during the incident on August 1, when two officers tried to arrest James Porter, 31, of Leacroft, Winster.
While they tried to make the arrest, Porter – who had a warrant out for his arrest for not attending court – assaulted the male officer and kicked him to the head.
The passerby pulled over and got out of his car to help the officers but he left the scene before the officers were able to take his details.
Porter was found guilty of ABH and ordered to pay £150 compensation and handed a community order on August 2 at Chesterfield Magistrates court.
