Man needs surgery after dog attack in Heage

A man had to undergo surgery when a dog bit him while he was trying to protect his own pet.

A 55-year-old man was walking his dog in a field behind Heage Windmill, off Church Street, Heage, when they were approached by a large black dog.

The animal began attacking the victim’s dog and he intervened, suffering bites to his hand and wrist.

A family, who could own the other dog, approached him and a woman asked if he was alright but did not leave any contact details.

The victim required surgery to repair tendon damage.

Police have only just released details about the incident, which happened between 2.45pm and 3.25pm on Thursday, August 6.
