Police have renewed their appeal for information after an elderly woman awoke to find an alleged offender in her bedroom.

At about 5.15am on Monday, July 27, a man entered a property on Handley Lane, Handley, near Clay Cross, via an insecure door.

The man made his way into the homeowner’s bedroom where the woman was asleep.

She woke up and the man ran away from the property.

The victim was left shaken but uninjured.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and has been released on bail pending further enquiries, a spokesman for Derbyshire police said.

Another suspicious incident occurred at a house in Bevan Road, Danesmoor, in the early hours of Saturday, July 25.

A woman was awoken by a disturbance and saw a man running out of her house.

Detectives are urging people to make sure their doors and windows are properly locked at night and to consider installing house alarms and security lights.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incidents should call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestopers on 080 555 111.

In the July 27 incident, officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was attending to their horses at the local livery at the time.
