A former Pinxton man has been fined nearly £200 and must repay over £1,100 in benefits he falsely claimed.
Following an investigation by Bolsover District Council, Anthony Hatton, 30, now of Selston, appeared at Chesterfield magistrates’ court and pleaded guilty to falsely claiming £1,125 in housing benefit for an address he was no longer living at in Pinxton.
Hatton, who was previously living as a private tenant on Town Street, Pinxton, advised the council he had been living at the address until December 31, 2012.
Following a data-matching exercise and investigation, Hatton was found to have also been in receipt of housing benefit from another authority for another address he had been living at from September 24, 2012.
Hatton was fined £74 and ordered to pay costs of £100 and a £20 victim surcharge.
