A drug user was found in possession of cannabis and M-cat after he was spotted outside a pub and searched by police.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Wade Elliott, 21, of Summerfield Road, Dronfield, pleaded guilty to possessing the class B controlled drugs in Dronfield.

Prosecuting solicitor Ian Shaw said: “A police officer received information. He went past the Swan pub and saw Elliott. He changed into his uniform and returned and carried out a search and found the drugs among items in a bag.”

Elliott told police he had bought the cannabis and M-cat drugs and admitted he was a regular cannabis user.

The court heard how the small amounts were consistent with Elliott’s claims that they were for personal use and the defendant was fully co-operative with the police search in July. Magistrates fined Elliott £80 and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
