A man who smokes cannabis to reduce stress has been fined after he was caught in possession of the drug.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday, May 23, how Liam Bennett, 29, of Lime Avenue, Staveley, was found to have 1.5grammes of cannabis by police.
Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “Officers found he had a small amount of cannabis with a street value of £15 consistent with personal use.”
Bennett, who has a previous conviction for drug possession, pleaded guilty to possessing the cannabis after the offence on May 3.
Defence solicitor Denny Lau said Bennett used the drug at weekends to reduce stress.
Mr Lau added Bennett had just got a job at a fastfood chain and would be able to pay any fine from June 20.
Magistrates sentenced Bennett to a £100 fine and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
