Victims are scammed by adverts for holiday accommodation and arrive to discover they have nowhere to stay and believe they are booking a flight and receive a fake ticket or none at all.

Det Insp Rob King, Head of the Derbyshire Economic Crime Unit, said: “Families work hard to save up for holiday and fraudsters are taking advantage by offering deals that seem too good to miss.”

He has advised people to make sure companies are legitimate and to check companies are ABTA recognised and if a deal sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Travellers are advised to use protected credit or debit cards and read terms and conditions.

Victims can contact Derbyshire police on 101 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. For advice visit Stamp out Fraud at www.derbyshire.police.uk/stampoutfraud.
