A shoplifter was brought to justice after he was caught on CCTV stealing computer accessories from a Chesterfield store.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Benjamin Hardwick, 20, of Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, stole the SD memory cards from Wilkinson’s on Vicar Lane, in October.
Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said CCTV was viewed and a member of staff saw Hardwick stealing the cards worth £60 and he was later identified and arrested.
Mrs Allsop said: “He made a full admission to police and said he had no money and that the cards were easy to sell on and that had been his intention.”
Hardwick who pleaded guilty to theft said he was sorry and that he had stolen the cards because he needed the money.
Magistrates sentenced Hardwick to a £74 fine and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £60 compensation.
