Derbyshire roads police officers launch new Twitter account

Twitter users can now follow Derbyshire Constabulary’s roads policing officers as they launch a new account on the social media site.

The team plans to tweet useful information, such as details of road closures and traffic problems, as well as the results of operations like vehicle safety checks and speeding enforcement.

This new account is the latest to be launched by officers following the success of the force’s main account @DerbysPolice, which was created in the summer of 2009 to share news, appeals and information with followers.

To date, more than 38,000 people follow the force. Seventy-seven Safer Neighbourhood teams now tweet on the beat and there are accounts run by dog section, the Gay Police Association, Christian Police Association and four teams in charge of policing football matches.

PC Adam Titterton, of Roads Policing said: “We will use the Twitter account to highlight the work we do and share information with our followers.

“We will send tweets when a road has been closed because of a collision, or when we expect there to be delays.

“It’s also a chance for us to tell people about the safety events we hold for bikers, or when we have had success seizing uninsured or defective vehicles.”
