Derbyshire police features in new Home Office video

The film, which shows how a burglary is processed through the criminal justice system, was launched on the Home Office police.uk site on Wednesday.

Viewers hear from a police constable, a crime scene investigator and a detective inspector from the burglary unit all describing their role in the investigation.

Those roles were filled by Derbyshire Constabulary’s PC Gavin Hooton, CSI Graham Stewart and DI Darren De’Ath.

Call handlers, forensic analysts and dog handlers were also involved in the film which shows how a crime is dealt with from the first call through to a suspect being charged.

It was filmed over two days in January at force HQ and other locations across the county.

The interactive film shows members of the public the lengths police go to when investigating a reported crime.

It also highlights the importance of witnesses to a case and lets the public know what they can expect under the Victims’ Code.

Policing Minister Damian Green said: “This film provides an easy-to-access way for the public to see how crimes affecting local communities are dealt with.

“Police.uk is an integral part of this government’s reforms to make the police more accountable to the communities they serve.

“The popularity of the site, which has almost half a million visits a month, underlines that 3 years on it remains a great place for enabling the public to find out crime levels in their area and to see what action the police are taking doing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.”
