A STUDENT who drove his friend’s car while disqualified and without insurance has been given a curfew.
Nicholas Grant Prentice was stopped by police while driving his friend’s Toyota on Terrace Road, Buxton on November 6, prosecutor Jennifer Fitzgerald told High Peak Magistrates’ Court.
Prentice had been banned from driving in 2010 for drink driving and ordered to sit an extended re-test, which he had failed to do, the court heard.
The 24-year-old, of Lower Packington Road, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, admitted the offences.
Michaela Dunk, defending, said: “He was with a friend who had been asked to take some friends to the train station so he borrowed the car in order to do so.
He knows it was a really silly mistake for him to make.”
Prentice was given a community order with an eight-week curfew between 7pm and 6am.
He must also pay £85 costs and a £60 surcharge and was given six penalty points.
• Michael Corbin, who owned the car Prentice was driving, admitted permitting the use of a motor vehicle without insurance when he appeared at High Peak Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Corbin, 22, of Hilton Road, Egginton, Derby, was fined £110 and given six penalty points.
He must also pay £35 costs and a £20 surcharge.
