Police in New Mills and Hayfield are giving locals crime prevention advice as part of a crackdown on shed and garage break-ins.
The area’s Safer Neighbourhood Team have set the issue as their policing priority for the next three months after a rise in the number of reported thefts from sheds and outbuildings in the area in recent weeks.
Officers will be heading out into the community to chat to local people about home security and have also issued advice on how to improve shed security.
Crime prevention tips from the team include: don’t leave valuable property in an unlocked shed or garage; fit decent locks to your shed door; use extra security measures inside your shed and mark valuables with your postcode and name.
