Officers have been working closely with local residents and housing provider, The Guinness Partnership, over the past few months to close down a crack house that was being run from a flat at Upper Greenhill Gardens on Rutland Street, Matlock.

A number of complaints about anti-social behaviour (ASB), drug dealing, drug use and violence were received about the flat from residents in the area.

PC Dave Naylor from the Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Anti-social behaviour and drug use is something that we take very seriously as it can damage the quality of life for residents and impact on neighbourhoods and communities.

“This is the first crack house closure in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales using these powers and we hope that it will highlight to others that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities.

“We will continue to work with partner agencies to combat anti-social behaviour in the town to improve daily life for local people.”

Under new anti-social behaviour legislation which was introduced in October 2014 police were able to enforce the closure power which allows police or the local council to close premises where ASB is being committed.
