Council cracks down on anti-social behaviour in Mickley

Drinking alcohol, causing a nuisance and playing golf on open parks are to be banned in pubic open spaces in Mickley after North East Derbyshire District Council authorised a Public Spaces Protection Order for the area.

The order came into force on Monday, November 9, and will last for three-years.

The effect of this order is to prohibit people from being in possession of open alcohol containers in public places.

It also bans people from playing golf, or being in possession of golf equipment on the open park areas at and surrounding the HUT and BMX track.

Those caught making excessive noise which causes a nuisance also face possible fines.

If any person breaches the order they will be liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of up to £1,000 or a fixed penalty notice of up to £100 under section 67 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

North East Derbyshire District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety Councillor Lilian Robinson said: “We have had problems in and around the Mickley area for some time and we are delighted to have put this PSPO into place.

“Residents have the right to live their lives free from abuse, nuisance and anti-social behaviour and this order will give us greater powers to deal with situations involving either individuals or groups, which could then escalate and cause more problems in the community.”

Land and buildings which have permission for sale and, or consumption of alcohol such as pubs, clubs and off licenses will not be subject to the order at the times when they are open to the public. Appropriate signs will be displayed in key areas throughout Mickley and around the perimeter to which the order applies to serve as warnings.
