A motorist who failed to complete a statutory off road notification for a vehicle has been fined.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday, October 10, how Steven Phillips, 25, of No fixed abode, claimed he had lost track of correspondence and details due to difficulties with addresses.
Phillips told the court he only heard about a previous court hearing over three weeks ago after he was handed a letter from his mother. He also explained that a relationship with a previous partner had also broken down and her address had no longer been a point of contact.
Phillips pleaded guilty to having a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements from May 22 despite claiming to have sent off paperwork. But magistrates told him the onus was on him to confirm details had been received and he was fined £75 and ordered to pay £110 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
