Residents have been left shocked after police confirmed a man and a woman have been found dead at a house in Chesterfield.
Police discovered the dead bodies at a semi-detached property on a bottom corner of Walton Drive, Boythorpe, about 2.15pm, on Friday, August 16.
Peter Revill, of Walton Drive, said: “We can’t believe it. It’s like something out of Coronation Street or Eastenders.”
Residents told how police vehicles and officers descended on the neighbourhood during Friday afternoon and have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area as part of their investigation.
Police were called to the address after concerns were raised for one of the occupants and officers found two people dead inside the property.
Derbyshire Constabulary has launched an investigation but stated police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths at this time.
One resident said: “My sister-in-law had been for a cup of tea and after she left she called me to ask what was happening because there were police everywhere and they were knocking on doors. One neighbour told me there had been a double death.”
Another resident who had just returned from a holiday with his family said: “It’s very sad. It’s the sort of thing you read about happening elsewhere but not on your own doorstep.”
One shocked resident also said she had been reassured to learn police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Those with information which may help police with their on-going investigation should call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.
