Chesterfield man given curfew after restraining order breach over concerns for ex’s safety

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Louis Grainger, 23, of Chaucer Road, Newbold, Chesterfield, had been in contact via Facebook despite Grainger’s restraining order and the couple had been talking about getting back together.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam explained during a previous hearing that after Grainger told his ex they should not get back together he became concerned she may self-harm so he called police and was arrested for breaching his restraining order.

The court heard how Grainger’s restraining order, which is in place until June, 2017, was imposed after a threatening behaviour conviction from June, this year.

Grainger pleaded guilty to breaching his restraining order between October 5 and 22.

Matt Evans, defending, said Grainger’s ex made contact and he made contact back and there were texts saying she was going to harm herself so he called police in her interests.

Magistrates sentenced Grainger on Wednesday, December 2, to a 12 month community order with a two month curfew and a rehabilitation activity requirement.

He must also pay a £60 victim surcharge, £85 costs and a £180 courts charge.
