Staff at a Chesterfield hair salon say they are too frightened to turn up for work alone after a series of break-ins and vandalism.
Phunk.e.d hair salon on Knifesmithgate in the town centre has been targeted three times in just 12 weeks, with money and equipment stolen and the premises trashed.
Staff say that after the first two incidents, police had told them there was nothing they could do about it - but now a third has happened they believe the matter is being treated more seriously.
Stylist, Elizabeth Warriner, said: “We are really annoyed about it and absolutely terrified about what we might find when we turn up in the morning.
“None of us want to go in to the shop alone so the owner, Dee, waits for us to turn up before she goes in the salon in the morning.”
The first incident took place in August when £600 of charity money was taken after thieves got in through an upstairs window.
A second a few weeks later saw another £100 go along with hair straighteners and in the third attack the place was totally trashed.
The salon, which currently employs six people, has been at its current base for almost a year and was previously located at premises on Beetwell Street - right next to the police station.
And in addition to these incidents, the business they replaced was burgled twice before .
However, they say they are determined to not let the thieves beat them and have vowed to keep moving forward as a business despite the attacks.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “Officers have conducted a crime reduction survey with the owners to see if anything can be done to reduce the likelihood of further incidents.
“The investigations remain open but there have been no further updates.”
