Police have revealed that a woman died of head injuries and her husband died from stomach injuries after their bodies were discovered at their home in Chesterfield.
Officers were called to the semi-detached property on a bottom corner of Walton Drive, Boythorpe, about 2.15pm, on Friday, August 16, where officers discovered the dead bodies.
Derbyshire Constabulary has named the deceased married couple as 60 year-old David Connaughton and 57 year-old Julie Connaughton.
A police spokesman said: “Following a post mortem examination we can say the woman died as a result of head injuries and the man was found dead as a result of stomach injuries.”
Police were called to the address after concerns were raised for one of the occupants and officers found two people dead inside the property.
Derbyshire Constabulary launched an investigation but stated police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths and have been preparing a file for the coroner.
Residents told how police descended on the neighbourhood during Friday afternoon and described the deaths as “very sad”.
Peter Revill, of Walton Drive, said: “We very rarely saw them and we didn’t socialise with them but when we saw them we would always say hello to each other. They seemed a nice enough couple and in some respects they were perfect neighbours because they were very quiet and you never heard a noise from them.”
Those with information which may help police with their on-going investigation should call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.
