POLICE are investigating a suspicious incident after an elderly man was discovered lying in the road with severe head injuries.

The 76-year-old man was found by officers on Springfield Avenue, Brampton, Chesterfield, about 11.30pm, on Friday, February 8, after they received a call.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesman said: “It’s unclear how this local man sustained his injuries but we’re appealing for anyone who may have seen him prior to this incident to contact police.”

Police described the injured man as white, 5ft 7ins tall, of slight build, with short, brown, greying hair and he was wearing a brown donkey-style, sheepskin type coat and grey, cord trousers.

Witnesses are urged to call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
