POLICE and Derbyshire fire service are investigating an arson attack after a mattress was deliberately set on fire outside a home.

The fire was discovered in the front garden of the property on St Augustine’s Mount, Chesterfield, about 11.20pm, on Tuesday, February 26.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The mattress was well alight and fire damage was caused to the front of the property.”

Chesterfield firefighters armed with a hose reel jet extinguished the blaze and made the property safe within 15 minutes.

The fire service investigated the incident and used a fire investigation dog with police before stating that the incident is believed to have been deliberate.

Witnesses or anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
