Thieves broke into a house and stole a car in an overnight burglary on St Helens Road, Chesterfield.

Police were called at 7.45am this morning (November 7) after a couple had woken to find someone had broken in, unlocked the front door and taken a set of car keys.

The thieves had then made off with their silver Vauxhall Vestra that was parked on the drive way.

Neighbours reported seeing male youths smoking in the street at around 3am – the same time as the family were woken by their dogs barking.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to call them on 101.
