A TEENAGER risks custody after admitting the use of cannabis since he was 14.
When police raided Kyle Waring’s home, they found enough small parcels of the drug to make £1,300, a court heard. Officers also seized scales and £380 hidden under a bed.
Six months’ custody, suspended for two years, was imposed on Waring, 18, of Bath Road, Buxton. He must do 140 hours unpaid work and attend a ten-day course to help him find work.
Waring appeared at Derby Crown Court and admitted having a Class B drug with intent to supply it.
Avik Mukherjee, prosecuting, said police stopped a car driver on September 21 when they suspected a drug deal had taken place. The driver was searched but had a £10 note and nothing else.
However officers spotted another vehicle whose occupants were “showing interest in what had happened,” said Mr Mukherjee. One of these was Waring, whose home was searched. He claimed most of the cannabis was for himself.
Mr Mukherjee added: “He made no comment where he had got the drugs from.”
James Riley, mitigating, told the court: “He basically became addicted to cannabis at the age of 14. There has been an effect on his criminality leading to this conviction.”
But Waring had been able to reduce his use of the drug and Mr Riley added: “He has got to show a level of maturity.”
Judge Andrew Hamilton said Waring could have been sent immediately into custody but put him on probation for two years after asking: “If I give you a chance, will you take it?”
Waring replied: “Yes, sir, I will do anything, sir.”
