A booze-fuelled reveller repeatedly punched his partner after the victim tried to stop him from buying more alcohol following a night-out.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard this month how Steven Scott, 25, of South Street North, Old Whittington, Chesterfield, attacked his partner Ryan Parker after they had been at a party.

Peter Bettany, prosecuting, said: “The two had been drinking vodka at a party and they left at 1am in the morning.

“The defendant wanted to get more alcohol from Brimington garage but Ryan Parker told him not to because he thought he had had enough to drink.

“Scott punched Mr Parker to the floor and repeatedly punched him to the face before he got free and he tried to shut himself into the bathroom by using his feet.

“The victim used a mobile phone to call for help but the defendant got the phone and threw it to the ground and smashed it.”

Scott pleaded guilty to assault by beating and criminal damage after the incident on July 6.

Mr Parker and Scott are still in an on-going relationship, according to Mr Bettany, who explained that Mr Parker no longer supports any prosecution against his partner.

Defence solicitor Felicity Clarke also stated that Scott is apologetic and has suffered with depression.

Magistrates adjourned the case to consider pre-sentence reports. Scott was released on unconditional bail until a sentencing hearing on August 28 at Chesterfield magistrates’ court.
