Booze-fuelled insult lands Chesterfield man with fine

COURT: Court Case

A booze-fuelled drinker who insulted a man and told him to leave the area has been ordered to pay £228 in fines, costs and a victim surcharge.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard this month how Shane Gregory, 37, of Stanhope Street, Doe Lea, Chesterfield, insulted the man as he was catching a bus.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said: “As the complainant was walking to the bus stop the defendant called him a name that was completely without foundation.”

The defendant continued to call him names and told him he had so many months to move out of the village, according to Mrs Allsop. Gregory pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour after the incident in December, last year.

Bob Bashforth, defending, said Gregory had been drinking heavily at the time of the incident and is apologetic and accepts what he said was unacceptable.
